Casino employees in Macao are banned from gambling

The Legislate Assembly of Macao has ratified new legislation. According to the directive, casino employees in Macao cannot visit gambling facilities anymore. There’re 54 000 people who work in this sector; from now on they cannot visit any gaming clubs after work. The authorities promise that the new legislation won’t affect the corporate income.

The new bill will take effect before the end of the upcoming year. According to the GGRAsia report, the prohibition extends to the dealers and other workers of the gaming facilities (including security, catering and cleaning services). The next ban will affect junket-operators which is about 8000 people.

The reason for such ratifying the bill (which received a solid vote from the assembly) is the series of complaints between 2011 and 2017. According to Gambling Inspection and Coordination Bureau, these complaints were filed by the employees who stayed at their workplace off the clock.

However, the draft makes an exception for the casino workforce. They will be allowed to play slots or table games during the first three days of New Year celebrations in China. This exception is made due to the difficulties in integrating the bill into the gambling system.

Experts are positive that the realization of the legislation will cause many troubles. There’s no database for casino employees in Macao. This means that if a dealer is prohibited from coming to his own workplace, he might go to another casino or register on its web site.

However, the head of the Gambling Inspection and Coordination Bureau Paulo Martines Chan claims that such a database is already in progress. The casino workers will be notified about the ban in person. If someone will refuse to obey or will try to abide by the rule, this person will be dismissed.

Luckily New Zealand still treats its gamblers quite mildly. There's no similar ban in NZ; what's more, there're a lot of reliable online casinos for fair play.
